Bangkok is confident that people will be safe during the Songkran Festival through the integration of all sectors to take care of the people 24 hours a day.

Assoc. Prof. Tavida Kamolvej, Deputy Governor of Bangkok, informed that the Songkran festival is a period of several consecutive holidays. Most people like to travel or return to their hometowns in other provinces to make merit according to tradition. In addition, the government has announced a 21-day Songkran event “World Songkran Festival” through the cultural network of 76 provinces across the country and 50 districts in Bangkok between 1-21 April 2024. As a result, traffic volume will increase. There is congestion from entertainment venues and various service establishments that organize Songkran events to attract many people. It may pose a high risk of traffic accidents, the spread of infectious diseases, and fires, which may cause the loss of life and property of people in the Bangkok area. April is summer with extremely hot weather that isn’t suitable for long periods of outdoor activity or splashing.

Bangkok has prepared an action plan for disaster prevention and relief during the Songkran festival in Bangkok for the year 2024 to determine measures and integrate with all sectors, including the government, private sector, internal agencies, and external agencies of Bangkok to prepare for the situation to reduce the risk of accidents or public hazards, as well as manage the safety of life and property for the people and provide convenience in various areas efficiently.
