Bangkok joins in celebrating 155 years of Thai-Belgian relations by transforming a street into an outdoor art gallery.

Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, attended the opening ceremony of mural paintings (Street Art) by Belgian artists and Thai artists. H.E. Mrs. Sibille de Cartier d’Yves, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to Thailand attended the opening ceremony.

He said that we would like to thank the Belgian Embassy in Thailand for introducing this art project in Bangkok. We are grateful to the Belgian and Thai artists who have worked tirelessly to finally bring beautiful art to the city. Street Art is one of the activities that many embassies from many countries participate in and is also a main policy of Bangkok. Art is a universal language without barriers and borders. Everyone can understand and have access to it. Bangkok has initiated a policy of “organizing outdoor art exhibitions and turning every corner of the city into an art scene”. This activity not only allows Bangkokians to expand their imagination and creativity through various forms of art in their daily life but also gives artists a space to produce and showcase their work.

“I applaud the idea of a collaboration between Belgian and Thai artists, which symbolizes the strong cooperation as the long-standing diplomatic relations between Belgium and Thailand mark its 155th anniversary this year. I am sure that these artworks will be another attraction for both locals and foreign tourists as the primary objective of the project is “Brighten your street, Color your neighborhood”. It will make Bangkok a more colorful city. Bangkok itself is ready to cooperate with the Embassy in other activities in the future,” he added.

In this regard, Bangkok and the Embassy of the Kingdom of Belgium in Thailand have scheduled a mural painting activity (Street Art). The objective is to increase the attractiveness of the city and create community participation in the arts according to the concept “Brighten your street, Color your neighborhood”. Belgian artists and Thai artists are scheduled to carry out this activity together from 6 – 29 March 2024 to promote cooperation and good relations between Bangkok and the Royal Thai Embassy of the Kingdom of Belgium in Thailand. and promotes the policy of “exhibiting outdoor art in every corner of the city as an art space” by the concept of “Good Creativity” of the Governor of Bangkok.
