French ambassador for LGBT+ rights visits BKK Pride Clinic, a clinic for the LGBT+ group in Bangkok.

Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok welcomed H.E. Mr. Jean–Marc BERTHON, Ambassador for the Rights of the LGBT+ People of the French Republic, and the group at Public Health Service Center 3, Bang Sue.

The Governor of Bangkok congratulated the Ambassador and the delegation for their interest in carrying out Bangkok’s mission regarding LGBTIQ people. Bangkok has policies and visions regarding creating a livable city. Giving importance to the participation of everyone and providing rights and equality by operating under the law and with authority and responsibility. It also provides primary medical services and has opened the BKK Pride Clinic to serve this group of people. The Ambassador said that equal marriage in France, including all genders, provides them with legal protection and equality.

The Governor of Bangkok said that Thai society today is still conservative in theory, but in practice, there is more openness in both the law and acceptance from society and family.

On this occasion, Assoc. Prof. Tavida Kamolvej, Deputy Governor of Bangkok, gave information to the Ambassador and the delegation on important issues regarding the missions of 69 Bangkok Public Health Service Centers. It is like the vanguard of public health services to local people regarding health promotion, disease treatment and prevention, and providing relevant knowledge to citizens. There are currently 31 mixed-gender health clinics, serving mainly Thai people. Some of the service recipients are foreigners from CLMV countries. Missions are carried out in connection with hospitals under Bangkok and outside agencies. Bangkok also carries out missions related to fast-track cities. The objective is to reduce the population at risk of contracting HIV and sexually transmitted diseases and increase efficiency in preventing and solving AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases by taking into account gender equality in society. In addition, various activities are carried out such as exchanging knowledge with a network of related agencies, publicizing information about Bangkok’s mixed-gender health clinics to become more aware, and providing services to the public in various locations as well as joining Pride Month with the rainbow cities network to promote understanding and social acceptance of gender rights and diversity. After the meeting and presentation were completed, the ambassador and the delegation visited the multi-gender health clinic, psychology room, and counseling room of Public Health Service Center 3 Bang Sue and inquired about operations and services for the people who come to receive services.
