Bangkok accelerates the development of Khlong Ong Ang from a unique tourist attraction to a creative district covering the Phra Nakhon-Thonburi tourist area.

Mr. Aekvarunyoo Amrapala, BMA Spokesperson and Assistant Secretary to the Governor of Bangkok, revealed an overview of the plan to develop the Khlong Ong Ang area by integrating collaboration between many Bangkok agencies to make Khlong Ong Ang a creative district as well as a valuable and unique tourist attraction that can create an economy for the people in the area.

“The Governor of Bangkok has placed great importance on strengthening communities along with sustainable entrepreneurs and merchants. The Khlong Ong Ang area is an area that has its own identity and is a source of specialized products such as toys and souvenirs. If we can connect entrepreneurs in the Pak Khlong area which is full of flower shops and find cooperation with Pho Chang College, which specializes in art, and then combine them into activities in the area, it will make Khlong Ong Ang a romantic canal, full of visitors who can both shop, admire art, and admire the beauty of flowers at the same time. Initially, we have given the responsibility to the relevant agencies to carry out the work, namely coordinating both internal and external agencies in Bangkok to create a plan to make Khlong Ong Ang a unique tourist landmark, safety for tourists and convenient travel, creating a network of entrepreneurs for strong cooperation and continuous public relations. It will be able to encourage tourists to ensure they have a different aspect of their travel experience than other travel destinations.”

In addition to the physical development of the Khlong Ong Ang area, Bangkok also has a plan to connect the development with nearby areas to create a big picture under the plan to develop the area connecting the Chao Phraya Sky Park (Phra Nakhon side). A network of green spaces with key tourist areas will be developed, improving access to the waterfront and promoting walking and cycling use. It includes the revitalization of unique neighborhoods to inherit the area’s identity, along with the development and preservation of the Pak Khlong Talat area, while implementing the plan to develop the area under the Phra Pok Klao Bridge – Pathom Borom Rachanusorn Bridge. It is to connect the historical districts on both the Phra Nakhon and Thonburi sides with the Chao Phraya Sky Garden. Citizens and tourists passing by will see the Chao Phraya River from a different perspective.
