Bangkok officials have removed three wrecked cars abandoned under the bridge at Borommaratchachonnani Intersection in Bangkok Noi district after complaints from locals.
Residents had complained that the cars were blocking traffic on Borommaratchachonnani Road at the intersection with Charan Sanit Wong Road.
Officials had earlier contacted the local police station to check if there were any pending accident investigations on the vehicles. Police said the owners of the cars had not reported to authorities. City authorities then posted notices on the cars warning their owners to remove them in the next 15 days or they would be towed.
Bangkok’s deputy governor Jakkapan Phiewngam oversaw the removal operation on Thursday to ensure public safety. The operation was carried out by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration City Law Enforcement Department, using a tow truck provided by the Finance Department.
The vehicles have been transported to a storage area at the Nong Khaem Waste Treatment Facility. If no one claims ownership of the cars in six months, the city will sell them as per the law.
Jakkapan said people can report vehicles left abandoned on roads or other public spaces via the mobile app Traffy Fondue or at the relevant district office. He also warned that leaving objects blocking public roads or space is punishable with a fine of up to 5,000 baht under Article 56 of the 1992 Act on the Maintenance of Cleanliness and Orderliness of the City.
