City Hall has advised Bangkokians to closely monitor air pollution from Wednesday to Friday amid a forecast of rising PM2.5 levels due to stagnant air.
PM2.5 refers to dust particles 2.5 micrometres or less in diameter, long-term exposure to which is linked with chronic diseases including lung and heart problems.
People living in areas where PM2.5 reaches the orange (“caution”) level should avoid outdoor activities for prolonged periods, Bangkok spokesman Aekvarunyoo Amrapala said on Monday. Air pollution levels in the city can be checked at AirBKK.com.
He added that 1 million N95 masks have been supplied to BMA public health centres to distribute to people in vulnerable groups, namely small children, pregnant women, and seniors. Bangkok authorities have also delivered donations of 300 air purifiers and 40,000 face masks to child development centres throughout the city.
