PM2.5 dust values during April 2024 decreased by more than 32% from last year.

 

Mr. Aekvarunyoo Amrapala, BMA spokesperson and Assistant Secretary to the Governor of Bangkok, revealed that during this period the PM2.5 dust values in some areas of Bangkok are still higher than the standard. However, from the data, it was found that the PM2.5 dust values in the Bangkok area During April of 2024, decreased by 32%.
Compared to April last year In April 2023, the average PM2.5 dust value was 37.3 micrograms/cubic meter, and in 2024 the PM2.5 dust value was 25.5 micrograms/cubic meter, that is, reduced by 32%. Data from GISTDA’s satellites report cumulative burning points in 2023, found 43,117 burning points, and in 2024 decreased to 38,078 points, a decrease of 12% as well.

However, the Meteorological Department predicts ventilation trends in Bangkok and surrounding areas. Between 17-25 May 2024, ventilation is in the weak to good range. But during 19-21 May 2024, ventilation is weak. while the atmosphere near the surface appears to switch on and off. There is also a chance of rain, resulting in dust concentration tending to remain stable or decrease.
