Dr. Wantanee Wattana, Permanent Secretary of BMA, attended a meeting with network partners to integrate tourism work between the public and private sectors. Mrs. Puangpet Chunlaiad, Minister attached to the Prime Minister’s Office, chaired the meeting at Bangkok City Hall (Giant Swing).
The meeting reported on tourism problems such as public rental cars such as tuk tuks and taxis inducing tourists to buy goods and services from related shops, collecting fares that must be managed fairly for both sides, traveling both on foot and on the road including safety in the dimensions of tourists.
In this regard, the meeting proposed 5 measures to solve the basic problem as follows:
1. Pedestrian mobility will be enhanced by the use of technology such as AI cameras for detecting traffic violations, organizing sidewalks, and parking public transport.
2. Warning symbols for tourists and users and issued to service providers will be created, such as tuk tuk and taxi stickers, to warn tourists to beware of fraudulent purchases of goods and services. It is a symbol that if anyone has a sticker, it means that they have been registered, including the store as well.
3. Integration of the forces of relevant agencies will be created to warn, fine, and deduct points for those who commit crimes against tourists.
4. Social measures by campaigning for public participation praising people who do good for society and warning those who do wrong.
5. There are public relations channels for contacts that are beneficial to tourists from the first step into Thailand such as important numbers for contacting relevant agencies in the event of various incidents, issuing a guidebook listing friendly and reliable shops and services that have been certified by relevant agencies for tourists.
Measures have already begun to be implemented initially with the “Ratchaprasong Model” for organizing tourism. It will be implemented more and more intensively and will continue to expand in important tourist areas such as the Rattanakosin Island area.
