Bangkok governor Chadchart Sittipunt has set a goal of having 20 projects yielding “more concrete results” in his second year in office, with the main focus being projects at the community level.
Chadchart took office in June 2022 shortly after winning the 2022 Bangkok gubernatorial election.
During a meeting with Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) executives and officials this week, Chadchart said these projects are, for example, road and footpath improvement, planting 1 million trees, increasing 15-minute parks and hawker centres, flood prevention, traffic facilitation, garbage collection zoning, and school and child care development.
The BMA will also continue to manage the fund earmarked for 2,000 communities at 200,000 baht each to help stimulate the local economy, as well as the budget from the National Health Security Office for improving healthcare coverage, added Chadchart.
“The BMA’s work in the second year will focus more on small communities,” he said.
Road upgrades will focus on reducing traffic congestion. Each district has been tasked with surveying chokepoints in their areas and discussing ways to fix them with the Department of Public Works.
Chadchart added that the BMA Expo this year will be postponed by one day, from July 13-15 to July 14-16. The three-day-fair will showcase the city’s latest innovations and technology.
