On July 8, 2026, Dr. Lertluck Leelaruangsang, Deputy Permanent Secretary for the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), officially accepted 50 literary works under the 2026 “Global Book Giveaway Initiative”. Presented by H.E. Mr. Patrick Bourne, Ambassador of the Republic of Ireland to Thailand, the handover ceremony took place at the Bangkok City Library on Ratchadamnoen Klang Road in Phra Nakhon District. The event was attended by Ms. Michelle Doherty, Political and Consular Advisor from the Irish Embassy, alongside senior executives from the BMA\u2019s Culture, Sports, and Tourism Department, and the International Affairs Office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 2026 literary contribution features four prominent titles, including 28 copies of The Spinning Heart, 15 copies of Irish Fairy Tales, Myths and Legends, 4 copies of The Pull of the Stars, and 3 copies of A Hosting: Interviews with Irish Writers. This donation serves as a powerful symbol of international friendship and a mutual commitment to promoting cross-cultural cooperation through the arts. The books will be systematically distributed to enrich the literary archives of public libraries, public schools, and community learning spaces operating under the direct jurisdiction of the BMA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Launched by the Irish government in 2021, the Global Book Giveaway Initiative is managed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Republic of Ireland. It aims to foster global cultural networks by sharing Irish literature, strategically coinciding with annual Bloomsday celebrations every June 16 to honor the legendary writer, James Joyce. This ongoing collaboration marks a continuation of strong bilateral ties; last year, the Irish Embassy gifted 50 books to the BMA to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Thailand-Ireland diplomatic relations. Those initial volumes are now successfully circulating across five key city-affiliated learning hubs, including the Bangkok City Library and the Soi Phra Nang, Lumphini Park, Ram Intra, and Lat Krabang learning libraries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
