Mr. Pornphrom Vikitsreth, Adviser to Governor of Bangkok and BMA’s Chief Sustainability Officer, announced that the city is now accepting used, old, or unwanted plastic water guns to be transformed into naphtha oil. Through a strategic partnership with SCG Chemicals, this recycled material will serve as a raw resource for plastic pellets, eventually becoming new products such as chairs, containers, and clothing fibers. This effort marks the first time Bangkok has implemented a concrete recycling program specifically for water guns, which were previously destined for landfills as general waste.

To maximize public participation, the BMA has expanded its collection points from three to nine locations across the city, available until April 19, 2026. These hubs are strategically situated in the heart of the festivities and popular shopping districts, including Silom Road, Khao San Road, and Benchakitti Park. Additional collection bins have been placed at major private sector partners like ICONSIAM, CentralWorld, and EMSPHERE, as well as The Mall branches in Tha Phra and Bang Kapi, and Central Park in Bang Rak. This expansion is a direct response to the massive volume of waste generated during the festival. Statistics from 2025 showed that just three main event areas, namely Khao San, Sanam Luang, and Silom, produced over 250 tons of waste combined in just a few days.

By promoting the Circular Economy concept, the BMA aims to significantly reduce the environmental footprint of Bangkok’s most famous holiday. The initiative not only decreases the amount of plastic sent to landfills but also lowers energy consumption and encourages citizens to take an active role in sustainable urban care. Residents are encouraged to “pass it on” once the spraying is finished, helping to convert festive plastic into renewable energy and high-value resources. As Bangkok strives to become a more livable city for everyone, this program stands as a vital step in balancing cultural celebration with environmental responsibility.

#BMA #GoodEnvironment #GoodManagement #LivableCityForAll #Songkran2026 #WaterGuns #CircularEconomy #Songkran2569

Following the high-energy water fights of Songkran 2026 …

อ่านเพิ่มเติม “From Splash to Sustain: BMA Expands Water Gun Recycling to Nine Locations for Songkran 2026”

[267

post-592307","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-eng0
["GET
