The meeting served as an opportunity to discuss the progress of ongoing collaborations between the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) and JICA. As a token of appreciation, Governor Chadchart presented Mr. Sakudo with a 6-inch Benjarong ceramic plate adorned with Bangkok\u2019s official emblem. The event was attended by Bangkok\u2019s Deputy Governor Wisanu Subsompon and senior officials from the Environment Department, the Traffic and Transport Department, and the Strategy and Evaluation Department at City Hall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The partnership between BMA and JICA spans multiple sectors, with key initiatives addressing environmental sustainability, pollution reduction, and traffic management. The pilot project, covering major roads like Phahonyothin, Rama VI, Ratchawithi, and Pradiphat, successfully reduced vehicle queue lengths by 20-30% during peak hours after a trial run in September 2023.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Future plans include advancing adaptive traffic signals that dynamically adjust to real-time traffic conditions, ensuring smoother citywide mobility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"4\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Flood Prevention and the ADAP-T Project<br>JICA\u2019s Advancing Co-Design of Integrated Strategies with Adaptation to Climate Change in Thailand (ADAP-T) project is shedding light on the economic impact of urban flooding\u2014especially on Bangkok\u2019s transport sector. Findings highlight how prolonged water stagnation from heavy rains exacerbates traffic congestion. The research underscores Sukhumvit\u2019s unique role as a vibrant residential and commercial hub, rich in cultural and ethnic diversity, while also grappling with persistent traffic woes.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Key recommendations include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Boosting connectivity between transit systems and neighborhoods<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Encouraging shared mobility solutions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enhancing flexibility in transport options<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Promoting walkability and pedestrian-friendly infrastructure<br>Moreover, the study highlights innovative urban design concepts such as:<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Multi-Centered Connectable Cities \u2013 fostering interconnected urban hubs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Streets for All \u2013 inclusive road planning for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Last-Mile Accessibility \u2013 ensuring seamless transit connectivity<br>By leveraging these insights, BMA aims to redefine Bangkok\u2019s transportation ecosystem, improving quality of life and modernizing key transit corridors like Sukhumvit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through its strategic partnership with JICA, Bangkok is taking bold steps towards a cleaner, smarter, and more livable urban future.
