<\/figure>\n\n\n\nOn March 6, 2025, Mr. Chakkaphan Phewngam, Deputy Governor of Bangkok, visited Dusit to assess the progress of various city development projects under Governor Chadchart Sittipunt\u2019s agenda. His packed itinerary included a deep dive into waste management, air pollution control, and urban redevelopment, all with one goal in mind: making Bangkok a cleaner, healthier, and more livable city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the heart of the district\u2019s environmental efforts is the Ban Pak Ongkan Tor Pha community\u2014a 4-rai residential area on Thahan Road with 143 households. Since 2022, residents have actively participated in a waste separation program, demonstrating that when communities take ownership of their waste, the benefits ripple far beyond their doorsteps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The success of the initiative has not gone unnoticed. With Dusit emerging as a leader in community-driven waste management, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) aims to replicate this model in other districts. The message is clear: separating waste isn\u2019t just about garbage, it is also about sustainability, efficiency, and long-term urban well-being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One major concern is the fight against PM2.5 pollution remains a top priority, particularly in areas affected by large-scale construction projects. The Purple Line MRT extension (Tao Poon \u2013 Rat Burana), which cuts through Thahan Road and Khlong Suan Aoi Noi area. This 4.87-kilometer stretch, part of Contract Section 1 of the railway project, is a hotspot for dust and fine particulate matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To mitigate the impact, the Deputy Governor instructed district officials to strictly enforce air quality control measures at construction sites. These include: several Mandatory wheel washing for all vehicles exiting the sites to prevent dust from spreading onto city streets.
\u2022 Regular street cleaning along the construction route.
\u2022 Continuous water spraying to reduce airborne dust particles.
\u2022 Covering all construction materials with tarps to prevent dust dispersion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bangkok\u2019s infrastructure expansion is necessary but so is protecting public health. Dusit is setting a standard that other districts must follow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A city isn\u2019t truly livable without green spaces, and Dusit is making sure its residents have one more place to breathe freely. The district is spearheading the development of Bang Makok @ Rama V Park, a \u201c15-minute city\u201d urban oasis along Khlong Prem Prachakorn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Designed as a linear park, this 2-kilometer stretch will serve as more than just a walking and cycling path\u2014it will be a pet-friendly sanctuary, a place for exercise, leisure, and community activities. Bangkok\u2019s rapid urbanization has often come at the expense of green areas, but this project aims to restore the balance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
From waste sorting and pollution control to urban greenery, Dusit is proving that local action drives citywide transformation. While Bangkok still has a long road ahead in its fight against pollution and waste, initiatives like these set the blueprint for a cleaner, healthier capital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
